Frequently asked questions about switch cabinets and safes
What is an IP55 versus an IP67 certified switch cabinet?
A switchboard for outdoor use often requires at least IP55 protection (protection against dust and water jets), while IP67 offers protection against immersion to a certain depth. For outdoor use, we recommend a waterproof outdoor switchboard with IP67 protection.
Why choose a stainless steel switch cabinet?
A stainless steel switch cabinet is made of stainless steel, which is ideal for environments with high humidity or corrosive conditions (such as at sea). The material offers a long lifespan and good resistance.
Do I also need ventilation or grilles?
Yes. Especially with 19-inch racks or when purchasing switch cabinets for heat-generating equipment, air vent panels or active ventilation are recommended to prevent overheating.
Can I place a switch box outside without additional protection?
It is possible, provided the outdoor switch box or enclosure is rated at least IP65/66/67, has a UV-resistant finish, such as a powder coat, and is securely mounted. Additional protection from sun and rain significantly improves the lifespan.
How do I anchor a switch cabinet or safe?
All models with anchor holes can be secured to the wall or floor with suitable hardware. This increases safety and stability, especially for outdoor switch cabinets or larger safes.
