Securing Business Premises – Detection, Cameras, Sirens and Access Control: Four Key Products for Outdoor Security

For businesses and outdoor sites, a single break-in quickly means more than just damage. Customer trust, business continuity, reputation and insurance are all at stake. Good security starts at the outer boundaries of your site. The goal: detect, deter, delay and secure evidence.

In this article we highlight four essential components that together form a strong security chain for outdoor areas: detection, cameras, sirens and access control.

1. Perimeter detection: the first barrier

Product: UMA AIR-BE150-L3 Triple Beam IR Detector Set

  • What it does: as soon as someone enters the site – before they reach any buildings – they break one or more infrared beams. This gives you an early warning.
  • Installation tip: mount the set along the property boundary, along footpaths or along unused access routes. Make sure the beams have a clear, straight line of sight, free of obstacles.
  • Its role in the chain: you are alerted before the cameras even come into play, so you can respond (lights, siren, notification) before an intruder gets any further.

2. Cameras – visibility and evidence

Product: Dahua SD5A825GA-HNR PTZ dome camera

  • What it can do: impressive range with 25× zoom, night vision up to 150 m, smart analytics (such as distinguishing people from vehicles), recognition and auto-tracking.
  • Where to use it: above fencing, on building corners and mounted high for a good overview. Aim it at the main access routes and at spots where someone could hide.
  • Working with detection: as soon as the IR beams detect an interruption, this camera can automatically turn to that zone, zoom in, track the intruder or start recording. That way you don't miss a thing.

3. Siren and strobe – deterrence and response

Product: Maxalarm Vega Plus outdoor siren

  • What it does: loud alarm sound (112 dB), flashing LED bars, a highly visible siren housing and tamper detection.
  • Where to mount it: in visible locations near the entrance, on building façades and at the corners of the site, so that anyone approaching can hear and see it.
  • Why it matters: it deters intruders, alerts neighbours and can be linked to the camera and detection setup, so detection leads to immediate, visible action rather than going unnoticed.

4. Access control – who can go where

Product: Dahua ASI6214J-MFW IP access control unit (face recognition / fingerprint / card)

  • Purpose: records who enters and prevents unauthorised access through gates and doors.
  • Where and how: install it at the main entrance(s), gates and, where needed, at access points to warehouses or critical zones. Biometrics plus card offers higher security than card alone, and you always have a record of every entry.
  • Integration: it can be linked to cameras (so every access attempt is recorded) and to the detection setup (for example, linking a beam interruption to the access control system, alarm, etc.).

5. How the layers work together in an effective security strategy

Stage Product / measure What happens Possible response
Early detection IR beams Interruption is detected Notification / warning / camera starts tracking
Visual surveillance and evidence PTZ camera See who it is, record, zoom in Recording, live view, alert to security team or owner
Deterrence and alerting Siren + strobe Makes the intrusion instantly visible and audible with sound and light Neighbours are alerted, intruder is deterred, alarm receiving centre (ARC) is notified
Access control Biometric reader / card / face recognition Only authorised persons can pass through gates and doors Logging, optional link to access rights, detection of lost or misused credentials

6. Practical tips and points to watch

  • Network and power supply: especially for cameras and sensors – PoE or a separate power supply? For the siren: 12 VDC, a backup battery, etc.
  • Weather and vandal resistance: IP rating, impact resistance (such as the IK rating) and a robust housing.
  • Maintenance: clean camera lenses regularly, check the siren's batteries/backup and check the alignment of the beams.
  • Integration: make sure all components work together (alarm panel / NVR / software). For businesses: integration with an alarm receiving centre (ARC) or security team.
  • Legal and insurance aspects: grade certifications (e.g. for the siren), privacy rules for cameras and face recognition, and registration.

For business use, a single security product is never enough. The best results come from a layered approach: detection (the beam set), followed by cameras (visibility and evidence), then deterrence with sound and strobe, and finally strict access control for sensitive zones.
