Automatic door operators and electric door closers
An electric door closer or automatic door operator combines convenience with safety. The door opens or closes automatically after activation by a tag, keypad, sensor or button. Ideal for accessible entrances, care facilities, shops or busy buildings. At UMATECH you'll find powerful, quiet models for interior and exterior doors, in standard or low-energy versions.
Our door operators and closers are used every day in offices, care facilities and shops. Every model in our range is built for long-term use, with controlled closing force and quiet operation. Want a door that closes automatically, or a simple closer without a motor? You'll find both below.
Our door operators are suitable for:
- Interior and exterior doors up to 120 kg or 1.2 metres wide
- Offices, care and education environments
- Automatic opening with adjustable hold-open time
- Closing force adjustment (EN 2–5) for optimal safety
- Connection to intercom, access control or fire alarm system
Mounting is possible on the door leaf or frame (pull or push side), often without major changes to existing doors. Models are available with or without automatic opening (motorised or electromechanical) and feature overheating protection and manual override in case of power failure.
Want the door to open on a tag scan and close after 15 seconds? Set this via the integrated timer or an external controller. Extra functions such as door-open signal, status feedback and closing delay are easy to configure.
Order before 17:00 and, if in stock, we ship the same day – so your door moves smartly and automatically tomorrow.
Door closer vs automatic door opener
The terms are often mixed up, but there's a clear difference. A classic closer makes sure a door closes in a controlled way after opening. An automatic door opener does the opposite: the motor actively opens the door for you. An electric operator that combines both in one housing saves installation time and cabling.
Many modern models, such as the YLI units, work both as an automatic door operator and as a closer. They're especially handy at busy entrances, for people with reduced mobility or in hygienic areas where contactless opening is wanted. See the full range from YLI, the specialist brand for automatic door openers in our range.
Activation: sensor, button, tag or remote control
An automatic door opener with sensor responds to approaching people and is often used at accessible entrances, hospitals and supermarkets. The motion sensor starts the motor as soon as someone comes within a few metres. See the options in our access control sensors collection.
Prefer deliberate operation? Choose a push button at the door or on the desk. A version with remote control works with a hand transmitter – ideal for delivery entrances, gates or remote access. For tag access, combine the operator with a reader from our RFID/NFC readers; the door then opens as soon as a valid card is presented.
Want to integrate intercom and camera? Connect the door operator to a video intercom so you can see who's at the door from home or the office before releasing it. This is popular in apartment blocks and shops. See all connection options in our access control systems.
Automatic door operators for exterior doors
An exterior door has different requirements from an interior door. Wind, rain and temperature differences call for a robust motor, weatherproof housing and higher closing force. The exterior-rated operators in our collection reach closing force EN 4 to EN 5 and work reliably on doors up to 120 kg or 1.2 metres wide. Preferably choose a model with an IP rating and manual override, so you can still get in during a power cut.
For extra burglar resistance, combine the operator with a mechanical locking system or an electromagnetic lock. Not sure which type suits your situation? Read our buying guides or send us a WhatsApp.
What does an automatic door operator cost?
The price depends on the type, load capacity and degree of automation. At UMATECH a mechanical door closer starts at around €56, while a fully automatic motorised door opener costs around €499. Price is mainly determined by maximum door weight, motor power and extras such as timer, fire alarm connection or closing delay.

Frequently asked questions about automatic door operators
What's the difference between a door closer and an automatic door opener?
A door closer makes sure a door closes in a controlled way after opening. An automatic door opener actively opens the door, often via sensor, button or tag. Some models combine both functions in one unit – ideal for accessible entrances in care, retail or offices.
Which door operator is suitable for an exterior door?
Choose a model with IP rating, overheating protection and closing force adjustment up to EN 5. The YLI YAD-200SW is suitable for indoor and outdoor use and works on doors up to 120 kg. Also consider wind load and the correct mounting side (PUSH or PULL).
Can I open a door with a sensor or remote control?
Yes, you can easily connect a sensor, button or remote to the controller. Motion sensors, push buttons, RFID readers and hand transmitters all work – ideal for people with reduced mobility, care facilities or delivery entrances where hands-free access matters.
What does an automatic door operator cost on average?
At UMATECH prices range from around €56 for a mechanical closer to around €499 for a fully automatic door opener, depending on load capacity, motor and extra functions such as timer or fire alarm connection.
Does an automatic door operator work during a power cut?
A good operator has a manual override in case of power failure: the door can still be operated by hand and closes safely via the mechanical spring. For critical entrances, combine the operator with a UPS battery so the automatic function keeps working during an outage.
Can I link a tag door opener to my access control?
Yes, it works well with an existing access control system. The controller triggers the door operator as soon as a valid tag or card is presented – combining secure access with automatic opening for busy offices, hotels and care facilities.
Does an automatic operator fit both inward and outward opening doors?
Not every operator fits both opening directions. The YLI YAD-200SW (PUSH) is made for outward-opening doors and the YAD-200SW (PULL) for inward-opening doors. Always check that motor and arm match your door before ordering.
