Buy AC/DC power adapters
An AC/DC power adapter converts the 230 V AC from your wall socket into a stable 12 V or 24 V DC for security equipment, access control and network devices. At UMATECH you'll find regulated AC/DC adapters in all common voltages and power ratings, CE-approved and shipped straight from Amsterdam.
A reliable adapter is the foundation of every standalone security solution. Whether you're powering a camera, intercom, access reader or small network device, always choose the right voltage and enough power. Our range runs from 5 V USB-C chargers and 9 V adapters to 12 V, 24 V and 48 V supplies, with fixed or interchangeable DC plug.
Our selection includes:
- 12 V DC adapters (1 to 5 A), ideal for cameras, locks and hubs
- 24 V DC and 24 V AC adapters for intercoms, DIN controllers and door operators
- Adapters with fixed or interchangeable DC plug (5.5 × 2.1 mm)
- Compact plug-in models and desktop adapters with mains lead
- Weather-resistant versions (IP44 to IP66) for outdoor mounting at cameras and lighting
All adapters are CE-approved, energy-efficient with low standby consumption and protected against short circuit, overvoltage and overheating. Plug-and-play connection makes them ideal for quick replacement or expansion of existing systems. Order before 17:00 and, if in stock, we ship the same day.
12 V DC adapter: the most common power supply in security
A 12 V DC adapter is the standard power supply for most IP cameras, RFID readers and electric locks. When choosing one, check three things: voltage (12 V DC), current (at least equal to your device's consumption) and the type of DC plug (usually 5.5 × 2.1 mm).
The most popular choice is a 12 V 2 A adapter – enough for one camera or access reader. For low-draw devices such as a small keypad, 1 A will do. With several cameras on one power point, choose a 12 V supply with multiple outputs or switch to a PoE switch that delivers power and data over one cable.
Our 12 V adapters are always regulated: the output stays at a constant 12 V even under changing load, which prevents faults and extends the life of your equipment. All models have overvoltage and short-circuit protection, so the adapter shuts down safely if there's a wiring fault.
24 V adapter: for intercoms, door operators and controllers
Devices such as intercom systems, automatic door operators and industrial controllers often run on 24 V. Check whether your device needs 24 V DC or 24 V AC, as this varies by brand and model. Most modern door controllers and LED drivers use 24 V DC; some older intercoms or PTZ cameras need 24 V AC.
Our 24 V adapters are available as plug-in or desktop models from 1 A to 5 A. Not sure which one you need? Send us a WhatsApp with your device's model number and we'll advise straight away.
DC plugs and adapters
Most adapters come with a standard 5.5 × 2.1 mm DC plug, the common size for security cameras, recorders and access control. If your device has a different connector, use a DC plug adapter to connect without soldering. A DC plug with screw terminals is handy when you want to wire the cable directly. For larger projects, combine DC plug adapters with a junction box or splitter cable.
Buying an AC/DC adapter: what to look for
Three specifications matter: voltage (V), current (A) and connector type. The voltage must match exactly what your device requires; the current rating must be equal to or higher than the device's consumption. An undersized adapter delivers unstable power and can overheat.
A universal adapter with adjustable voltage and interchangeable plugs is handy for powering several different devices. Also check the protection class: an indoor adapter is fine in a patch cabinet or enclosure, but for an outdoor camera choose a weather-resistant version rated at least IP44.
Frequently asked questions about AC/DC power supplies
What is an AC/DC power supply?
An adapter that converts 230 V AC from the wall socket into a lower DC voltage such as 12 V or 24 V – the stable voltage needed by security cameras, access control equipment and other electronics.
Which DC adapter do I need for my camera?
Most security cameras run on 12 V DC. Check the voltage and current on your camera's label; a 12 V DC adapter with at least the same current is enough. For a standard IP camera, 12 V 2 A usually does the job.
What's the difference between a 12 V and a 24 V adapter?
The output voltage. 12 V suits cameras, locks and small network devices; 24 V is used for intercoms, door operators and industrial controllers. Never connect a 24 V adapter to a 12 V device.
Can I use a universal adapter for security equipment?
Yes, provided it has enough current and you set the correct voltage. Always check the required voltage and the polarity of the DC plug before connecting.
What is a DC plug adapter?
It changes the size or type of connector, e.g. from 5.5 × 2.1 mm to 5.5 × 2.5 mm, or from round plug to screw terminals – so you can connect a standard adapter to a different input without soldering.
What's the difference between AC and DC output on a 24 V supply?
An AC-output adapter delivers 24 V alternating current; a DC-output adapter delivers 24 V direct current. Check whether your device needs 24 VAC or 24 VDC – the wrong type can damage it. If in doubt, get in touch.
Can I use an AC/DC adapter outdoors?
Only if it has a weather-resistant housing rated at least IP44. Standard adapters are for indoor use; for outdoor cameras or lighting we offer splash-proof models from IP44 to IP66.
How do I choose the right current rating?
Check your device's consumption in amps (A) or watts (W). The adapter's current must be equal to or higher. A higher-rated adapter (e.g. 3 A instead of 2 A) simply supplies what the device needs and no more.
