Network and server cabinets at a glance
- Foundation for networks: a 19-inch network cabinet provides a central, secure and organised base for network hardware, preventing faults and overheating.
- Standard dimensions: "19 inch" (48.26 cm) is the universal mounting width for components such as switches, patch panels and UPS systems.
- Choosing dimensions: the ideal cabinet width is 600 mm or 800 mm (for extra cable space). For depth, allow about 10 cm more outside depth than your deepest device.
- Height in units (U): equipment height is measured in units (1U = 4.45 cm). Choose a cabinet with spare room for future growth and better ventilation.
- Door types: glass doors reduce dust and noise in offices; perforated doors are essential for cooling heavy server setups.
- Compatibility: UMATECH cabinets suit equipment from leading brands such as Ubiquiti, Hikvision and Dahua, including matching accessories.
Network and server cabinets: the backbone of your network
A reliable network connection stands or falls with a solid foundation. A tangle of cables and loose equipment leads to faults, overheating and unnecessary searching during maintenance.
A 19-inch network cabinet gives all your hardware a central, secure and organised home. Whether it's a compact home network, an office or a heavy-duty server room: a good cabinet is the best investment in the future of your digital infrastructure.
What is a 19-inch cabinet?
"19 inch" refers to the standard width (48.26 cm) between the mounting profiles. Thanks to this universal size you can mount almost any professional network component – switches, patch panels, NVRs and UPS systems – easily with cage nuts.
How to choose the right cabinet
The right choice depends on the equipment you have now and what you want to add in future. Pay attention to these three points:
1. Width and depth
- 600 mm wide: the most popular size, suitable for almost any installation.
- 800 mm wide: extra side space for vertical cable management – perfect if you have lots of thick cabling.
- Depth: the outside dimension is always about 10 cm more than the usable inside depth, so always check the depth of your deepest device (often the server or UPS).
2. Height in units (U)
Equipment height is measured in units (U), where 1U is exactly 4.45 cm.
Our tip: always choose a slightly bigger cabinet than you need now. Networks often grow faster than you think, and extra space also improves ventilation.
3. Which door?
- Glass door: keeps dust out, dampens noise and looks sleek – ideal for the office or hallway.
- Perforated door: a must for powerful setups (such as servers) that give off a lot of heat, for maximum airflow.
- Open racks: for places where you always need direct access and cooling matters more than theft or dust prevention.
Why a network cabinet from UMATECH?
- Always fits: fully suitable for 19" equipment from all leading brands (Ubiquiti, Hikvision, Dahua, Ruijie, etc.).
- Safe & tidy: designed for smart cable management and a professional look.
- Complete setup: not just the cabinet but also accessories such as PDUs, shelves and fans in stock.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between a network cabinet and a server cabinet?
The terms are often used interchangeably, but the main differences are depth and door. Server cabinets are often deeper (up to 1000 or 1200 mm) to house large servers and usually have perforated doors for maximum airflow. Network cabinets are often shallower and used for lighter equipment such as switches and patch panels.
How many units (U) do I need?
Add up the units of all your devices – a standard switch or patch panel is usually 1U – and add at least 20% for cable management, shelves and future expansion.
Can I mount a cabinet on the wall, or must it stand on the floor?
That depends on the model. Compact cabinets (up to about 18U or 22U) are often available as wall cabinets, ideal for smaller spaces or homes. Larger cabinets (22U to 42U) are free-standing floor cabinets designed to carry the weight of servers and UPS systems safely.
Why is cable management so important?
Good cable routing prevents "cable spaghetti", which is essential for airflow and cooling. An organised cabinet also makes troubleshooting and maintenance much faster and safer, as you can see at once which cable goes where.
Which accessories do I need to complete my cabinet?
Besides the cabinet you'll usually need cage nuts for mounting. Other essentials are a PDU (power distribution unit), shelves for equipment without rack ears, and blanking panels to close empty spaces neatly and optimise airflow.
