Uniview NVR won't boot and is stuck on the logo screen – what now?

Uniview NVR start niet op, boot loop logo scherm. Wat nu?

What to do if your Uniview NVR is stuck on the UNV logo

It's a frustrating situation: you power up your Uniview NVR, but the system never gets past the boot screen with the UNV logo. Don't panic – this doesn't necessarily mean the device is faulty. In many cases you can fix the problem with a few targeted steps.

Please note: this method works in most situations. If the problem persists after these steps, please contact support.

Step 1: Check the RUN LED

Look at the RUN indicator LED on the front of the NVR. Its status tells you a lot about what's happening behind the scenes:

Flashing slowly: the NVR is still booting. Give it a little more time.
Steady on: the NVR has fully booted and is running.
Flashing rapidly or behaving abnormally: go straight to the next step.

Step 2: Disconnect cameras (and any other connected equipment)

Sometimes a faulty hard drive or a network fault causes the system to hang during initialisation.

1. Switch off the NVR.
2. Disconnect all hard drives (HDDs) (unplug the SATA cables inside the unit).
3. Disconnect all Ethernet cables.
4. Now start the NVR with nothing connected and check whether it gets past the logo screen.

Step 3: Check the power supply

An unstable power supply is a common cause of boot problems.

  • Make sure you're using the correct power adapter for your specific model.
  • Disconnect the power and let the NVR rest for 5 to 10 minutes before starting it again.
  • Cross-test: do you have another (working) adapter of the same type? Swap it in to check whether the original adapter is faulty, or measure the original with a multimeter.

Step 4: Recover the firmware from a USB flash drive

If the steps above don't help, you can try to restore the firmware via the USB port.

Tip: don't have the right firmware? Request the correct "Program.bin" file from support or find it in this list.

The procedure:
1. Format a USB stick as FAT32.
2. On the USB stick, create a folder named "recover" (lowercase!).
3. Place the file "Program.bin" in this folder. (If the download is a .zip file, extract it first.)
4. Insert the USB stick into the NVR.
5. Restart the device. The NVR will detect the firmware automatically and start the upgrade/recovery procedure.
