Maglocks: silent, wear-free locking with high holding force

An electromagnetic lock locks a door without mechanical contact. When powered, the magnet holds firmly onto an armature plate on the door. The result: powerful, silent and low-maintenance locking that's ideal where traditional locks are awkward, such as glass doors, emergency exits, gates, automatic doors and heavily used doors.

Depending on the model, holding force goes up to 600 kg, so maglocks suit light interior doors as well as heavier commercial entrance doors. Models with around 60 kg holding force are available for lighter applications.

At UMATECH you'll find reliable maglocks for indoor and outdoor use in many sizes and versions, from compact mini maglocks to heavy industrial models – including specific versions for fire doors.

Why choose a maglock?

No mechanical wear

With no latch, cylinder or moving parts, a maglock doesn't wear and performs consistently – perfect for busy locations, with a longer life than traditional mechanical locks.

Whisper-quiet

Locking is completely silent, which makes maglocks ideal for offices, care facilities, hotels, libraries, meeting rooms and automatic sliding or swing doors.

Safe and verifiable

Many models have (or can be fitted with) a door status sensor and/or LED indication, so you can see at once whether the door is properly locked – ideal for integration with building management systems.

Perfect with access control

Maglocks work very well with card readers, keypads, intercoms, timers and door controllers, making them ideal for modern access control projects.

Applications

  • Glass doors (where drilling or cutting is limited) – ideal for shops, showrooms and modern offices
  • Emergency and escape doors (with correct control and in line with regulations), including fire door applications with appropriate certification
  • High-traffic office doors
  • Gates and exterior doors (IP-rated versions)
  • Server rooms and plant rooms
  • Automatic doors where silent operation is wanted

Our maglock range

  • Standard magnets (180–600 kg) for surface mounting: the most popular choice for entrance doors in offices, retail and commercial buildings, also available in 24 V versions.
  • Mini maglocks: compact models for cabinets, server racks, narrow frames or tight spaces.
  • Double magnets: for double doors or where you need two anchor points.
  • IP65 versions with epoxy sealing: for outdoor use and damp environments, with extra protection against dust, rain and weather.
  • With door status sensor or LED indication: for instant visual feedback and (optional) monitoring in your access control system.

Installation: quick and neat

Installation is usually simple thanks to practical accessories. Many models come with:

  • L, Z or U brackets (depending on door type and opening direction)
  • drilling templates for accurate alignment
  • instructions for mounting and wiring

Power is usually 12 V or 24 V DC. Some models also support PoE in combination with a suitable controller – handy if you want power and control over one network cable.

Fail-safe: automatic release on power loss

Want a door to unlock automatically when the power fails? That's the standard logic of a maglock:

  • power on = locked
  • power off = unlocked

Ideal for emergency exits and situations where safety and evacuation matter (always with the correct control and applicable requirements).

Which holding force do you need? (quick guide)

  • 180–300 kg: interior doors, light to normal use
  • 300–500 kg: busy doors, offices/retail, heavier door leaves
  • 500–600 kg: main entrances, heavier doors, extra security

Tip: door type, closing force, draught/wind load and mounting surface all play a role. If in doubt, go one step up.

Fast delivery

Order before 17:00 (if in stock) and we ship the same day, so you'll usually have safe, professional electromagnetic door locking the next day.

Frequently asked questions about maglocks

What's the difference between a maglock and a traditional lock?

A maglock works without mechanical parts such as a cylinder or latch, so there's no wear. Traditional locks contain moving parts that need maintenance or replacement over time.

Are maglocks safe for emergency doors and escape routes?

Yes, provided they're correctly applied and controlled according to the regulations. Fail-safe operation releases the lock automatically on power loss, which is essential for safe evacuation.

Which holding force do I need for my door?

That depends on the door type, intensity of use and external factors such as draught or wind load. For interior doors 180–300 kg is often enough; main entrances and heavier doors are better off with 500–600 kg.

Can maglocks be used outdoors?

Yes, special IP65 versions with epoxy sealing are suitable for outdoor use and damp environments, such as gates and exterior doors.

Does a maglock work with access control systems?

Maglocks integrate very well with card readers, keypads, intercoms and door controllers, which is why they're widely used in professional installations.
